Rajhenburg Castle is one of the most important monuments of medieval culture in Slovenia. In the 12th century, it was built by the Archdiocese of Salzburg and placed under the administration of the ministerials, which were named after the castle – Reichenburg. After the extinction of the family, many owners added new elements to the building and gradually gave it its present appearance. In 1881, Rajhenburg was bought by Trappist monks and converted into a monastery, and in 1941, the German occupation authorities established a camp for the expulsion of Slovenes in the castle and its buildings. Since 1968, it has mainly been dedicated to museum and event activities. After a comprehensive renovation in the period 2011-2012, the castle was managed by the Kulturni dom Krško.Today, Rajhenburg Castle offers a glimpse into the past, which is perfectly complemented by a superb gastronomic offer.
