FINALIST#9: A trip along the apple trail

Day 1
9.00: Kozjanski park – where the apple is more than just fruit
         Start your day at the medieval square in Podsreda, where every year the Kozjansko Apple Festival is held. It is also the seat of the largest regional park in Slovenia, Kozjansko Park. The park administration will kindly welcome you and show you the movie “Meadow Orchards,” a bird show, a natural treatment plant and serve you apple juice from the apples of Kozjansko’s orchards.
11:00 Apple wine tasting in the restaurant Pure
          After your visit of the park headquarters, a glass of special apple wine of the bobovec variety, produced at the Dobravc Organic Farm, will do you good. The tasting of apple wine, accompanied by homemade cold cuts, will take place in an old market inn converted into a Belgian pub. The pub is just steps away from the park’s headquarters, run by a Belgian family. You can also try different types of Belgian beers here.
12:00 Apple lunch at the restaurant Kozjanski dvor
          The restaurant Kozjanski dvor invites you to its renovated pub, pizzeria and centerpiece, and an outdoor patio next to the pond in the cozy shade of mighty willow trees, where homemade delicacies directly from farms are served. At Kozijanski Dvor, they will complete your journey along the apple route with a very special apple menu.
14.00 Visit of the Kukovičič mill + tasting of apple delicacies
           You will visit the Kukovičič Mill Organic Farm, which has one of the few operational water-powered mills for grain milling in Slovenia. You will see the whole process of grinding cereals and learn about the operation of the mill and try apple cakes made from homemade apples from Kozjansko and other delicacies from their farm.
20.00 Sleeping in an apartment in the Castle Podsreda
          The newly decorated apartments offer you a unique sleeping experience between castle walls. Spend the night as a nobleman and enjoy the tranquillity of the castle walls and the beauty of the unspoiled nature of Kozjansko Park. In the morning you will have a real kozjanski breakfast of homemade delicacies in your basket. You can either eat the breakfast at the castle or enjoy your breakfast at a picnic surrounded by unspoiled nature.
