Undiscovered Stories of the Valley of Mills: Educational Trail of Dwarf Biser
Everything started with great communication from the tour operators. Then the ride up to the Alpine village Čadrg was exciting. We immediately met one of the residents. Then we saw cheese being made and had a chance to test it, as well the delicious milk. We walked further through the village and met the father of the cheese maker, Jani, who promptly went inside to get us some grappa and raised a toast to us, as visitor to his village. We continued our journey and went to the viewpoint, which was gorgeous and educational. We learned about making limestone into lime, through a fire process that was hundreds of years old! We saw rock slides and the damage that they caused, as well as the development of other high alpine grazing land. Then we headed back into the village for a delicious lunch in a covered patio. We were treated to cheeses and meat, soup and Frika and delicious dessert, with house wine. Perfect. We ended the day with some more cheese tasting and ended up buying a wheel from another cheese maker, Andraž.
It was an exhilarating day and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a true Slovenian alpine experience.
Thank you to Radio SI, and Dolina Soče, as well as the warm and friendly residents of Čadrg.
