No, it’s not an escape to Mars, it’s an escape to the Karst! Red soil is inseparably connected to the Karst region – terra rossa is the soil that makes the refošk vine produce the world-famous terran wine. The Terran with its deep violet colour and its strong tannic aroma, remains the great son of the Karst soil.
The vines and sumachs that turn ruby red in autumn and variegate the idyllic Karst landscape, where the bora wind dries the rosy Karst prosciutto (smoked ham), where there are villages with their characteristic narrow streets the so called »gase« and their squares »kržade«, here every traveller is enchanted. Here, for a moment it seems, time has stopped.

10.00 – visit to a stonecutter and the carving of one’s own souvenir of stone – Bortolato, Pliskovica
12.00 – Karst lunch at the tourist farm Škerlj, Tomaj
