Welcome to the picturesque landscape nestled between the valley’s wine-growing hills, the beautiful river Krka, the historical town of Rudolfswerth, and the forested plateau of Gorjanci on the border with Croatia.
NOVO MESTO – A CITY OF SITULAE
The city, which is new in name, reveals its heritage from the times before Christ and surprises us with its precious objects from the Iron Age – Situlae, skillfully decorated bronze pails, which were once used at feasts. Every year’s Iron Age Living and Culinary Festival in June is dedicated to exceptional bronze monuments, evidence of the development of European culture in the Iron Age.
With a local guide you will discover the old town centre, which is surrounded by remnants of the medieval city and most important corners, magnificent history and picturesque nature with the digital APP »Secrets of Dolenjska«.
The guided tour will take you to the highest point in the city – the observation deck Kapitelj in the bell tower of the St. Nicholas Cathedral, from where you can enjoy a view of Novo mesto and its surroundings.
GREEN EXPERIENCES ON KRKA & TEMENICA RIVER
The Krka river is one of the unmissable natural elements that gives Novo mesto its image.
This experience will be provided at the Loka guest house, where lunch will be served on the banks of the Krka river. The Krka river is naturally preserved, as it shelters many plant and animal species, water experiences and unforgettable adventures – and one of the most beautiful ones awaits you right after lunch. A real green safari, “Green Adventure on the Temenica river,” will take you on a guided kayak tour with a guide into the wilderness of flora and fauna in the area.
The Dolenjska region is known for its wine, wine-growing hills and the most famous wine hill – Trška gora, which has the largest number of planted wine cellars in the world. You will taste a noble drop of the specialty wine Cviček during a guided wine tasting at the Colnar winery.
In the green shelter of the Krka River, the Hotel Šport Otočec will offer you a warm bed with a local breakfast from the hotel’s garden with local delicacies, vegetables and herbs.
You can explore the Dolenjska region on a guided e-bike tour with a cycling guide, a stone’s throw from Novo Mesto, or choose to play golf on the renowned 18-hole golf course near one of the most picturesque images of Slovenia: the castle of Otočec.
After an active morning, you will enjoy a delicious lunch in a castle-like setting at the luxurious Hotel and restaurant Relais & Châteaux Otočec. The restaurant is situated on the only river island in Slovenia and boasts a beautiful round tower that houses an impressive cellar filled with delicious Slovenian wine. Additionally, the restaurant has recently been awarded with a Michelin Plate, making it a perfect place to savor superb cuisine before heading home.
The Green Gourmet & Wellness Experience in Novo Mesto will leave us with unforgettable memories of a vibrant cultural and culinary adventure, immersed in the lush greenery of Dolenjska. We are confident that the warmth and hospitality of our hosts are going to leave a lasting impression, inspiring you to return for another visit in the future.
