FINALIST#3: Rock’n’Roll of Tastes in Maribor

A crazy mix of food, wine and music in Maribor.
Cult chefs and musicians from Maribor are making rock ‘n’ roll flavours.

This guided experience reveals the backdrop of unknown Maribor. Top wines and flavours are mixed with music from the days when Maribor was the capital of Slovenian rock ‘n’ roll. We take a stroll through the highlights of modern cuisine and wine bottles in a town where long-haired people were once hunted by the police.

 As an aperitif to the wine — made from grapes descended from the world’s oldest vine — we play a rock song known to every Slovene. In the cosmopolitan Restaurant Fudo, a meeting place for all hedonists, we can listen to rock hits accompanied by cheeses from organic farming. The first Maribor barista in HI KO FI serves up an afro beat, and the interactive digital table in the Maribor Castle has a pheasant pie that even a glam rocker could not refuse. In the gourmet wine shop Levino, with a selection of 70 types of top local wines, we meet a boutique winemaker who hears a new rock album in each year of his wines. Before the grand finale, a visit to the creative centre for alternative art GT22 and we are ready for a rocking experience in the Restaurant MAK. Top chef David Vračko always surprises with bold combinations on the plate and a spicy appearance. If we are naughty enough, he will give us a tour of the record and guitar collection in his basement.

Day 1
10.00 – Wine tasting in the Old Vine House
10.30 – Brunch at the restaurant Fudo
11.20 – A visit to the HI KO FI café – refreshments with coffee
12.00 – A visit to the Maribor Castle with an interactive digital table, which offers an insight into the festive menus of various historical periods
13.00 – Wine tasting at the wine shop LeVino
14.00 – A visit to GT22, a creative center of alternative art
15.00 – Lunch at the restaurant MAK
approx. 17.00 – arrival and check-in in at Nesting Resort (the “Sončni raj” estate) You will spend the night here, experiencing a genuine return to nature. The starry sky, the scents of the surrounding forest, the sounds of night and day residents, countless flavors and much more.

Day 2
8.00-9.00 – Breakfast
9.30 – BEE FLIGHT zipline – experience a thrilling ride in the unspoiled nature of the Sončni raj estate. The zipline is like the flight of a bee from its beehive.
approx. 11.00 – Check-out and return home.
