Only an hour’s drive away from Ljubljana, there is a world that touches us with its pristine nature. Perhaps the reason lies in its Karst soul, hilly Notranjsko look, covered in a mighty forest, or simply because of its distance from wide roads and noisy crowds. And not only that, there are at least two worlds: one spread underground, the other one enclosed with a forest facing the sun. Both mysterious, but still very much alive! This time, we invite you to join our guides on tracking the Brown Bear (ursus arctos).
You will be surprised to see that Križna cave, where our adventure begins, is also a special ‘Bear cave’. About 45,000 years ago, it used to serve as a cave for Cave bears (ursus spelaeus). Their tens of thousands of years old presence is revealed in the bones and the cracks found on rocks. A visit to the Križna cave will not end with the bear, but will continue with a boat ride on many of the underground lakes.
The ‘Bear story’ will continue in the TIC Lož, which is turning into an Information Center for the observation of a brown bear. Here, you will meet up with a guide who will accompany you on a walk through the forest. Together, you will discover the traces of animals, get to know the plant world, and of course listen to stories, constantly revealing the intricate interconnectedness and co-independence of man and nature. For many, the highlight of the day will be an evening with you sitting silently and safely in the high tower in the middle of the forest, watching the animals coming close – with the brown bear among them almost every night.
In order to satisfy all the senses (and needs), we will prepare lunch from local ingredients and, if desired, dinner, too, which will only amplify the taste of your experience – a taste of the natural, authentic and homemade.
