An original experience of Istria. Getting to know authentic Istria, Mediterranean food and customs with a traditional fishing boat and modern electric bicycles.
The smell of the sea, salt and pine trees will accompany us along the waves and paths of Istrian local food, produced by the hands of our farmers and fishers. We will help them with their daily tasks and learn about a sustainable way of responsibly handling the sea and land in a way that we have been doing in Istria for centuries. Electric bikes and a wooden boats will help us to move more easily.
Day 1
9:00 At the entrance to Tartini Square in Piran, a guide will meet us with a traditional welcome, produced by the hardworking hands of our salt workers. He will give us backpacks with bottled water and seasonal fruit or vegetables. After a short tour of Piran, we will board an old wooden boat that will take us around Piran, under the cliffs, past the shellfish farms to Strunjan. Our sailor, a fisherman, will show us some fishing skills, which we can try ourselves. In between, we will have time for a typical fisherman’s snack, sardines “na šavor”.
We will disembark in the fishing harbor of Strunjan and head across the salt flats towards one of the farms known for the production of artichokes, persimmons and other Istrian vegetables. We will help with the daily chores on the farm, and they will introduce us to work on an Istrian farm and prepare a homemade lunch for us. At the farm, electric bicycles will be waiting for us, with which we will drive through Parenzana through the Valleta tunnel, past Portorož and Lucia to see the stone sculptures at Forma Viva. We will then use eBicycles to get to the Gramona farm in Seča, where we will see an olive grove. Depending on the time of year, we will deal with the daily tasks in the plantation and then taste the olive products. After we arrive, the surprise will be special olive oils. From the farm, we will have a beautiful view of the Sečovlje Salt pans. The route will lead us along Jernej’s channel via Cape Seča, through Lucija to Portorož, where we will end the adventure at the Mažinin Wine Bar, where we will taste Istrian delicacies. 17:00 Transportation to the starting point will be organized.
