For almost 170 years, like the waves of the Mura River through Gornja Radgona, small secrets and abundant knowledge have been flowing through Radgonske gorice. How to skilfully pamper the vine to flourish in all its nobility. How to spend time caressing the grapes. How to fall in love with wine and its uniqueness. How to imbue it with sparkle, a source of countless bubbles that never dries up…
Fact is, that wine carries in itself beautiful stories. The stories of the people who live with it, nurture and appreciate it. And with your visit, you’ll also add yours to it.
Radgonske gorice is the oldest sparkling wine cellar in Slovenia. Their vineyards are spread over almost 500 hectares and contribute to the bottles of some of Slovenia’s favourite wines and sparkling wines. Now you have the opportunity to get to know Radgonske gorice in a completely new way! With top-quality e-bikes, you will start your trip at Dom penine and embark on a journey of activity and fun along exciting routes of varying difficulty, past fragrant vineyards and embraced by the sun, getting to know the story of the first Slovenian sparkling wine, creating the most beautiful moments.
The bike path will take you past the Mencinger inn, whose story began at the same time as the story of sparkling wine in Radgona, and which is written by the fourth generation with a young team that creates a space and moments for enjoyment and taking a pause from the hustle and bustle of today. A local tradition intertwined with new ideas and tastes.
A new stop after a delicious lunch awaits you in the Radgonas’ Špital, which now houses the Radgona Museum. The rich museum collection Radgonski mostovi, complemented by multimedia presentations and an open depot, reveals geological features, archeological attractions, ethnological, artistic, and of course the viticultural heritage of the town along the Mura. The Špital building itself has undergone numerous construction and purpose changes and today represents a rare example of bourgeois architecture in Slovenia with a unique floor plan and roof.
Returning to the starting point, where you are once again separated from electric bicycles, brings the last experience of exploring Gornja Radgona and its surroundings: a visit to Dom penine. We are sure that the discovery of the unique cellars of Radgonske gorice will remain in your memory and resurface each time you will be enjoying a glass of playful Radgona sparkling wine (radgonska penina).
