Undiscovered Stories of the Valley of Mills: Educational Trail of Dwarf Biser

Our trip to Šaleška Valley was a true immersion into an atmosphere of peace, nature, and little magical stories hidden from the eyes of an ordinary tourist. It wasn’t just a journey — it was an entire tale, woven into green trails, ancient mills, the scent of herbs, and the warmth of local people.  

 

We began our adventure with a walk along the Educational Trail of Dwarf Biser — a cozy forest path where it felt like a new fairytale was waiting behind every turn. Surrounded by dense trees, the whispering of leaves, and wooden signs, we felt like heroines of a magical book — somewhere between a fairytale and reality. The Volkov Mill, old and authentic, felt like it had stopped time. Passing by the mysterious Snake Castle and the antique collection at Starine Blažiš, it was as if we had stepped back into another century. And when we were surrounded by graceful deer at the Lamperček homestead, we truly felt like Snow Whites in our own forest fairytale — a moment we’ll never forget.

 

After a full and rich morning, we were treated to a delicious lunch in a cozy café, followed by some relaxation at the Velenje Lake beach. The scenery kept changing, each view bringing a sense of lightness and freedom. In the evening, we arrived at a true oasis — the glamping site “Valley of Peace,” where the night, wrapped in the rustling of trees and starry skies, became the perfect ending to this magical day.  

The second morning started with a homemade breakfast at the homestead: we were served fresh cold cuts, including venison sausage — everything was so authentic and heartfelt that the meal became another way of connecting with the local culture.  

After breakfast, we visited the welcoming Gril eco-homestead, where an old wine cellar had been transformed into an open-air museum. We strolled through their garden full of vegetables and medicinal herbs, listening to stories of a life rooted in respect for nature and tradition.  

This journey was not just a trip — it was a true discovery. We experienced a hidden side of Slovenia, filled with meaning, care, and the quiet magic of simple things.
